Abstract

The present article has been written with the aim of analyzing and examining the conceptual metaphors of love in the poetry of Badr Shakir Al-Sayyab and Hamid Mossadegh. In this research, the authors tried to comparatively study the common and different conceptual areas in the poetry of the two poets of this research, relying on the analytical-descriptive method and with the approach of the American school. The results show that these two poets have used many common metaphors to conceptualize love; Like fire, sorrow, drunkenness, death, wounds, madness, etc. Among the metaphors used by these two poets, the metaphors of "love is fire", "love is sorrow" and "love is drunkenness" have the highest frequency. These frequencies express the common view of these two poets on love. The difference is that in some of these commonalities, each of these two poets pays more attention to that metaphor than the other. From the point of view of these two poets, love brings sorrow and grief. In addition to the common metaphors in the poetry of these two poets, there are also common metaphors; Including the domains of traveler, sea and murderer in Siab's poetry and the domains of invader, captivity and refuge in Hamid Mossadegh's poetry. The study also found that the metaphors that Siab used about love are more than Mossadegh, and this indicates that Siab paid more attention to love.
