Abstract

Researching the works of poets and writers based on psychological theories is one of the methods worthy of attention to identify and show their thoughts and personalities as accurately as possible. "Love" is one of the themes that has always been the focus of researchers and its compatibility with psychological theories. Accordingly, in this essay, an attempt has been made to investigate the theme of love, as an inner need, in the works of two contemporary poets, Simin Behbahani and Jale Ghaem-Maqami, based on William Glasser's selection theory. Obviously, to satisfy the need for love, like other basic needs, a conscious behavior is necessary to create success. This research is descriptive-analytical and in it, the element of love in the poems of these two poets has been looked at from multiple perspectives. The questions of the present research are, according to Glasser's theory, what factors cause the need for love to emerge in the poems of Simin Behbahani and Jaleh Ghaem-Maqami, and how do these two poets express this need by expressing and drawing love in the contemporary period? The findings of the research indicate that the manifestations of the need for love were manifested in most of their poems and most of these poems were influenced by their life conditions. Also, the evidence shows that Simin Behbahani did not fuel his failure in love by choosing effective behaviors, unlike Jaleh Qaimmaqami; While despair and failure are evident throughout Jaleh's poems.
